Adam Shields, Assistant Pastor

Adam was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in various parts of the state including Lynchburg, VA and Bristol, VA. Adam came to know Jesus as his King and Savior at the age of 15 through the ministry of Young Life. After high school he headed off to Carson-Newman College, in Jefferson City, TN, where he was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. It was through a small group that he was stirred to the pursuit of God and the beginning of a call to ministry.

Adam graduated from CNC in 2002 with dual majors in Religion and Human Services, and then took a semester break before beginning his seminary studies at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL in January 2003. Upon graduation from RTS in the Spring of 2006, he worked briefly as an Assistant to the Pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Oviedo, FL. Beginning in the Fall of 2006, he began a two year pastoral internship at Eastwood Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL. While in Montgomery he had opportunities to preach, teach, coach boys basketball for Eastwood Christian School, participate in missions and outreach, as well as take part in various parts of the life of the church.

In October 2008, Adam joined Grace Covenant Church as Assistant Pastor where he helps lead and equip in the areas of teaching, worship, youth ministry, college ministry, outreach and missions. In 2010, Adam had the privilege of marrying his wife and best friend, Jessica – a story told and still being told of God’s grace!

Adam enjoys playing basketball and tennis, engaging the arts of film, literature, and music, and spending quality time with friends and family in good conversation. He is an avid fan of traveling, Mellow Yellow, and since becoming a resident of New Mexico….green chili!

Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
The birth date of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) is December 4, 1973. (But our spiritual roots are in the Protestant Reformation.)

We came into existence because we felt strongly the need for a Scriptural, evangelical and reformed witness for Christ. We wanted to be a part of a denomination which honors God and His Word. We desired a believing fellowship which is committed to evangelism, Christian education and training as top priorities in the Church. We felt that ministers and church officers should affirm without compromise the great biblical beliefs of Christianity.

Many of our churches separated from their denomination because of the compromise of our basic Christian doctrines. After years of sincere efforts to call our former denomination to revival and renewal we were led by God to withdraw and form a new body. The new denomination began with 250 congregations and 50,000 members.

Presently, the PCA is one of the fastest-growing Presbyterian denominations in North America, and is among the fastest growing of all denominations. We now have over 1,500 churches and more than 310,000 members in the United States and Canada with at least 66 Presbyteries. We have great Bible teachers such as R.C. Sproul, Tim Keller, and Randy Pope. The late D. James Kennedy began the ministry of Evangelism Explosion out of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, PCA.

Together we are lifting high our banner of love and testimony to Jesus Christ our Lord, locally and globally. The PCA has over 600 long term missionaries, 430 short term workers and 6,500 two-week workers serving worldwide. The PCA has also established one of the fastest growing campus ministries, Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). We now have campus ministers on over 80 college and university campuses across America. The PCA also has its own college, Covenant College, and seminary, Covenant Seminary.
